Art Rage 5 is a fun digital program that utilizes realistic texture found in traditional media without all the mess. I first heard about this program while watching an artist use it on Twitch. I was so impressed by how he was able to achieve a buttery quality of paint on a digital program, I had to play with it too. Turns out my purchase of an XP Pen artist tablet came with a license of Art Rage 5 and I’ve been playing around with it since. As an artist who enjoys the tactile feel and look of art material, this program really intrigued and surprised me. Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator has never gotten me this look before and I believe that Art Rage 5 is definitely a unique product.
Art Rage 5 was so easy to navigate with its clean interface and customizable workspace, tools, and brushes. This program feels like it’s ready to go and anyone could use it. I found many of the tools and menus intuitive. Each tool and feature use visuals, as well as labels so you can easily know what it does. This program packs a punch, despite its minimal looks. It’s similar to Photoshop when it comes having a large library of brushes that are also customizable. My favorite aspect of it is that it allows the artist to have the same feel and texture as working traditionally. I think this program is a great introduction for artists who are hesitant about using a digital art software. Art Rage has an array of different products that are compatible for Windows and MacOS and Mobile apps for Android and iOS. It is versatile in which allows you to start a painting in the field on your mobile device and continue working when you get back home on your desktop. The desktop version is priced at $59 for a one-time payment. Comparable programs such as Photoshop are more expensive as they require a monthly or yearly license renewal. Its mobile device is priced at $4.99 and also a one -time payment. The also offer educational discounts and programs. With the educational discounts, one-time payments, and versatile platforms Art Rage programs seem like a wonderful investment for your classroom. If that wasn’t enough to entice you, the program can be accessible to at least 5 other languages for your ESL students and has also been used with eye tracking hardware for even more accessibility for students with disabilities. Students can learn and enjoy learning different art mediums such as watercolor on paper, oil paint on canvas, and chalk pastel on textured paper anywhere without having lug around a whole art studio. Students can continue building skills they’ve learned in the classroom traditionally and digitally, as the program mimics the nature of traditional watercolor, oil, pastels, and more.
